Together Green: GSEIWI teaming up with Girl Guides in Australia!

Hi Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois. I’m in London to learn all about the Girl Scouts Forever Green project and I have some very exciting news to share with you.

Next week our council will begin selecting 15 girls ages 14-17 to work with girls from Australia on a twinning Take Action project!

A twinning project is an amazing experience for older girls to meet and interact with girls from another country. The selected girls will work with 15 girls from Australia to create and implement a Take Action project that benefits both our council and their country.

I’m here at Pax Lodge in London with Leona McLaggen, the Girl Guide volunteer from Melbourne, Australia. The 15 selected girls and I will be working with her throughout the project. We are meeting to plan out some of the basics for the project, including a project plan and dates for overnights. During these overnights girls will get to stay up late to Skype with the girls from Australia because there is a 15-hour time difference!

If you or someone you know is interested in being a part of this unique experience to meet girls from halfway around the world, and to learn what it is like to make a difference both globally and locally, email me at ForeverGreen@GirlScoutsToday.org.

Angela Grunder is the assistant director for leadership experiences for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois.
