A Girl Scout close up!

Meet Allison Passon, the person behind the GSEIWI blog and social media!

What is your favorite color? Purple

What is your favorite food? Combine pasta, shrimp and mushrooms and I’m good to go.

What are you listening to right now? Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles is flowing in my ears as I type this.

Why did you join Girl Scouts? I was in Girl Scout in elementary school for what I think is a year, maybe two. It was a while ago and time frames get fuzzy. I’m not sure why I joined Girl Scouts, maybe because my mom wanted me to or because my best friend’s mom was the troop leader. Either way, it influenced my beliefs and my career.

I got back into Girl Scouts as a college first year by working for Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys as a camp counselor, the next summer as the Program Specialist at camp, and the summer after that as a Marketing Communications intern.  That next summer I started at Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois full-time as a Regional Membership Manager. Now, I am the Communications Coordinator for Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois.

What do you like best about Girl Scouts?  I love how Girl Scouts empowers girls and gives them the opportunity to empower others.

Why should girls join Girl Scouts?  Girl Scouts is an awesome excuse to hang out with your best friends. Yet during this structured hang out time, girls are learning the essential skills to be success in changing their life and the world. Everything Girl Scouts do has a lesson of courage, confidence, and character embedded in it. It’s truly amazing.

What do you want to be when you grow up?  This has been a question I have been pondering since I was a fourth year at Wartburg College (a bit late into my college career, I must say). My future is full of possibilities; I could see myself becoming a Physical/Occupational Therapist, Certified Public Accountant, a baker in my own bakery, a business and economics professor. Like I said, the options are endless.

Why should people share their unique Girl Scout happenings with you? I am always looking to share girl stories with our online and print community! Readers have told me that they enjoy reading what other Girl Scouts are doing across eastern Iowa and western Illinois, and those are my favorite stories to share on the blog and social media. We know there are so many awesome everyday things that girls, leaders, parents and service units do that we don’t know about. So, share them with us!

Thanks for sharing Allisson – I’m listening to It’s a Wonderful World by IZ as I am typing. I love being able to put a face to your blog. I am passionate about the Girl Scout program also. But instead of wondering what i’m going to be, i have started a bucket list. So i am on the opposite end of the age range. I have been a girl scout adult for 47 years and I have felt hassled some times when there is conflict. I hate conflict but that is all apart of life and everyone is entitled to their opinions. So watching girls grow up and learn how to deal with those conflicts and grow to be strong individuals has truly been a joy to be around. I wouldn’t trade all my girl scout experience for millions.

What do you think?
