Summer isn’t over just yet!

Resident camp may be over and girls are starting school soon, but the fun at camp continues on!

I hosted an Outdoor Adventure Weekend at Camp L-Kee-Ta this past weekend with the help of nine volunteers, who helped cook our meals, lifeguard at the pool and led fantastic sessions including campfire 101 and archery! We even had a local teacher, Mr. Carper talk to the girls about geocaching (treasure hunts using GPS coordinates and word clues). The girls had the chance to hide two new “caches” at Camp L-Kee-Ta; be sure to ask Ranger Chet for the clues so you can hunt for these the next time you visit with your group!

Of course, a favorite of all the girls was free swim at the pool!

We have three more Outdoor Adventure Weekends scheduled into the fall. While registration has closed for Camp Conestoga’s, we are still looking for volunteers for the weekend (August 25-27), it’s a great way to share your outdoor knowledge with girls and spend some quality time at camp!

We are still accepting registrations for the Outdoor Adventure Weekends at Camp Little Cloud (September 27-29) and at Camp Tahigwa (November 8-10) and of course, volunteers are needed at those weekends as well! To volunteer your time e-mail me at

In addition to the great events we have coming up this summer and fall, we have several other ways for you to provide volunteer input and support.

Camping Subcommittee

We are seeking applications from girls (14-17) and adult volunteers from throughout the council to take part in our camping subcommittee. The camping subcommittee will advise Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois on topics related to Girl Scout camp. The committee represents a critical voice advising on the future direction of Girl Scout camp in eastern Iowa and western Illinois to ensure the best program for girls.

We also have two more meetings scheduled to discuss our camps. Supper will be provided at both of these meetings, please RSVP to me at so we can assure we have enough food for everyone.

Camp Meetings

September 10- New Camp Development Meeting, Camp Conestoga Dining Hall, 6 – 8 p.m. This meeting will focus primarily on the development of the property to take place in the next few years.

October 15- Friends of Little Cloud Meeting, Camp Little Cloud Lodge, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. This meeting will focus primarily on ways to encourage girls from throughout our council to attend resident camp at Camp Little Cloud next summer.

That’s all for this week of outdoor program with Angela Ventris. Check back next week for more excited news and adventures in outdoor program!
