This fall is a great time to take your troop outside.
Girls all over the council are headed outside this fall to go hiking, camping, make s’mores and ride horses. In fact, spots at all four summer camps are filling up quickly! Approximately 800 girls will use our camp properties between now and December 1.
Contact one of the camp rangers to check current availability and arrange a day long or overnight stay at one of our camp properties. Remember availability changes quickly so call in advance to make camp reservations. Click here to see camp facilities prices and rangers’ contact information.
Here are some weekends that have more availability than other weekends:
- Camp L-Kee-Ta October 12 and October 25
- Camp Tahigwa October 13-14 and November 1-2
- Camp Little Cloud October 25 and December 6-8
- Camp Conestoga November 1 and 2
You can work on some outdoor badges.
Taking your troop for the day or overnight is a great way for girls to learn more about Girl Scouts, spend time with each other and do some badge work. Outdoor badge highlights:
Daisy-Use Resources Wisely
Cadette-Trailblazing or Trees
These badges can also be earned at a local or state park and going for a hike, go to a nearby nature center. Most nature centers are run by county conservation boards are free to visit and on site will talk to your girls to meet badge requirements!
Want to be further involved in outdoor programming?
We have two volunteer meetings scheduled at camp facilities. Anyone from throughout our entire council is welcome to attend to discuss Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois resident camp for girls throughout all our counties. Thanks to those of you who have already RSVP’d!
September 10- New Camp Development Meeting, Camp Conestoga Dining Hall, 6 – 8 p.m. This meeting will focus primarily on the development of the property to a new facility which will begin this fall. We will hold several rotating breakout sessions including topics such as new facility master plan possibilities, fund raising for facilities, current and future activities, and equestrian program. This will be a great opportunity to provide your input. We will also have many opportunities for volunteers to sign up to assist with the development of our new facility.
October 15- Friends of Little Cloud Meeting, Camp Little Cloud Lodge, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. This meeting will focus primarily on ways to encourage girls from throughout our council to attend resident camp at Camp Little Cloud next summer. We will also allow time for discussion on uses for the property in the future and will have opportunities for volunteers to sign up to assist at the facility for upcoming events.
Supper will be provided at both of these meetings, please RSVP to Angela Ventris at AngelaV@GirlScoutsToday.org so we can assure we have enough food for everyone.
