Ideas to Get Your Family Outside!

The Girl Scout program values outdoor experiences. Yet, the outdoor experiences don’t need to stay with her Girl Scout experience. Get your whole family outside. The next couple of weeks, we’ll highlight ideas for you to use in getting your families in the great outdoors for our blog post series, “Ideas to Get Your Family Outside!”

Read previous series posts about gardeningnight exploration, and DIY camping.

This week our focus is water fun.

Explore the water this summer! Not only is it a good way to stay cool, but exploring natural waterways is a surefire way to spark your child’s imagination and love of nature. Try an organized activity like fishingcanoeing, rafting or kayaking. Plan a family trip to the water park, go swimming at the local pool or lake, or have a water balloon fight!

All in all, try to get your family outside!

Outside Family Fun

Take time to get away and relax with the whole family (ages 4 and up) during the Family Camp Sampler events at Camp Tahigwa and Camp L-Kee-Ta. Spend Saturday participating in fun activities (archery for grades 4 +, family games, Gaga Dodge ball, hiking, arts and crafts, geocaching, and frisbee golf). We will have a picnic and come together in the evening for an “all camp” activity and a campfire. Cost includes lunch and dinner on Saturday, breakfast on Sunday, snacks, and supplies. Linens, blankets and towels are not included. Choose cabins, treehouses or platform canvas tents for your weekend at camp!

That’s all for this week of outdoor program with Angela Ventris. Check back next week for more excited news and adventures in outdoor program!

I love being outdoors and thankfully so do my girls. These are some great reminders of easy it is to get out as a family and explore. I am definitely looking at doing some geocaching with my family this summer (a great way to be prepared to do this with my troop next year).
